A little about Ven. Dankande Dhammaratana Thero

photoBefore his renunciation, he had been meditating for number of years whilst holding a senior staff-officer post in the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Since he was not able to achieve any spiritual advancement that he wished for - due to the restricted time allocation for his meditation, of course - with a pure and firm intention of realizing Nibbana in this very life, he renounced in 1983. He received his higher ordination (upasampada) in 1984.

Then consistently and persistently he developed both Samatha (concentration, serenity) and Vipassana (insight) meditation in many many different ways for almost nearly 10 years.

It was only after that  did he start reading Tripitaka-books, and when he was reading Suttas he found himself that almost all of his meditation experiences were totally tallied with the Buddha desanas.

Since 1993 up to now, out of compassion, he has been conducting meditation retreats, giving constructive and pragmatic instructions conducive to realize Nibbana and/or Jhanas (Absorptions), delivering profound and practical Dhamma discourses based, as far as possible, on his own experiences so that the listeners too would perceive the true Dhamma and realize Nibbana while being listnenning to his Dhamma Desanas. This is a unique and unparalleled feature of his Dhamma sermons.

Uploaded in this website are such Dhamma discourses delivered by him, mainly meant for the mediators who endeavour to realize Nibbana in this very life.

A quite number of mediators in Sri Lanka and few in abroad are there who enjoy both Nibbanic-bliss and Jhanas (absorptions) by following his instructions.
